It was January 2005 at the G’Day USA event in Los Angeles—a gala celebrating Australian talent. Keith Urban had been invited to perform; Nicole Kidman was there as a presenter. When their eyes met, he later said, “I knew right then she was the one.”

At that time, both were healing. Nicole had finalized her divorce from Tom Cruise, and Keith was quietly fighting alcohol dependency after years on tour. “I wasn’t in a good place,” he once admitted. Still, something about her calm energy broke through his walls.

He waited four months to call her—“I thought she’d never remember me”—but when he finally did, they spent hours on the phone. Within a year, they were married in a candle-lit ceremony in Sydney (2006). But soon after, Keith checked into rehab for addiction recovery. “She saved my life,” he said later. Nicole never left his side.

Nearly two decades later, their marriage has endured the spotlight. Nicole often says, “We’re two very different people who choose each other every day.” Keith calls her his “North Star,” crediting her with grounding him when fame tried to pull him apart.

They now live between Nashville and Sydney, raising their daughters Sunday and Faith. Each time Keith sings “Parallel Line” or “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” he’s not just performing—he’s honoring the woman who believed in him when he didn’t believe in himself.
